CHAPTER TWO

 CHAPTER TWO

How to let your Beliefs Breaks your Mental Barrier to Succeed

"By Perseverance the Snail reached the Ark"- Charles Taddon Surgeon

Philippians 4:13, say,"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me".

The first and greatest obstacle to Success for most people is their belief in themselves. Endeavour to figure out where your sweet spot is (the area where you are most gifted), what often hinders our Success is self-imposed limitation.

Lack of belief can act as a ceiling to block your Success and send you to mental prison. When people believe in themselves they unleash Power in themselves and resources around them that almost immediately take them to a higher level.

Your potential is a figure of what you can become. Belief helps you see the picture and reach for it. Thomas Edison remarked,"if we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astonish ourselves".

Mahatma Gandhi said,"the difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems". We must first of all believe in our potential if we are to do what we are capable of doing.

How Belief and value made Mahatma Gandhi stand out.

Gandhi was born and raised in India. He studied law in Great Britain, afterwards he traveled to South Africa to work as a lawyer. When he arrived, he bought a first class train ticket, boarded a train and sat in a cabin. When the conductor came to check the passengers' ticket, he looked at Gandhi and asked,"what are you doing here"? Gandhi replied,"what do you mean"?"I paid to sit here". The conductor said, "No, you can't sit here".

When he asked why, the man replied,"People like you are not supposed to sit in the first class". Gandhi protested, "but I have a first class ticket"? The conductor replied,"it doesn't matter what you have paid for, I have told you, you aren't supposed to sit here". When Gandhi wanted to protest further the security were invited and Gandhi was ejected out.

In South Africa those days, first class tickets and seats were meant for the white people only.

Gandhi returned home and started a course which liberated him and his Indian Nation at large.

You too can free yourself and those who believe in you.

Charles Schulz offered this comparison, "life is a ten speed bike, most of us have gears we never used,"what are we saving those gears for? It is not good to travel through life without breaking a sweat. So what is the problem? Most of the time it is self-imposed limitations on ourselves.

Charles Schwab observed, "when a man has put a limitation on what he will do, he puts limitation on what he can do". We often put too much emphasis on physical challenges, obstacles and give little credence to psychological and emotional ones. Sharon Wood, the first Northern American to climb Everest mountain said,"I discovered it wasn't a matter of physical strength but a matter of psychological strength". The conquest within my own mind to penetrate those barriers of self-imposed limitations and to get through so that good stuff called potential, 90% of which were rarely used. Your potential is really up to you, it doesn't matter what others might think, it doesn't matter where you came from.

It is one thing to believe that you possess remarkable potential and it is another thing to have enough faith in yourself that you think you can fulfill it. When it comes to believing in yourself some people are agnostic. Kerry Randall observed,"successful people believe in themselves especially when others do not".

Even if the odds are against you in accomplishing what you desire, confidence will help you actualize your dreams. Having confidence in what you are doing gives you the power to achieve it. Believing in your mission will empower and encourage you. Remember a woman with a will to win and will have a say, a man with a mission will have his critics.

Take positive actions don't deter yourself

1. Believe determines yourexpectation

Accomplishment is more than a matter of working harder or smarter, it's also a matter of positive belief. If you are expecting to fail sure enough you will fail, and if you're expecting to succeed sure enough you will succeed. You will become on the outside what you believe in the inside. Benjamin Franklin said,"Blessed is he who expects nothing for he shall never be disappointed". Terry Randall said,"contrary to popular opinion life does not get better by chance, life gets better by change". And this change always takes place inside, not outside.

Remember it is the change of thoughts that creates a better life. Improvement comes by change but change requires confidence. In this case you have to make confidence in yourself a priority. Franklin Delano Roosevelt said,"the only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Don't let your doubt cause your expectations to expire".

2. Expectations determines actionsyou take

We can't live in a way that is inconsistent with our expectations. There are two kinds of people in the world, those who want to get things done and those who don't want to make mistakes. Hillary said,"mountain Everest you have defeated us but I will return and will defeat you because you cannot get any bigger and I can".

3. Actions determine results

Results come from actions. Sir Isaac Newton's third law of motion States that "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction".

How to Believe in Yourself

After personally experiencing the good that focusing on positive thinking can bring, I can confidently say your ability to believe in yourself can change your life.

The process of thinking and talking about what you want and how to get it actually makes you feel happier and you become in greater control of your life. And when you're in control of your life, you start to believe in yourself more and boost your confidence.

Why Believe in Yourself?

Have you ever heard the quote, if you believe it, the mind can achieve it?Or, whether you think you can or think you cant, youre right? These quotes exist because the mind is incredibly powerful, and your self-belief has the power to either limit you from reaching your full potential or propel you to do great things.

Confidence in yourself equips you to take action. It also helps you take bigger risks, which can result in bigger rewards.

Positivity works similarly. Scientific studies have proven that when you experience positive emotions (such as love, joy, or contentment), youll see more possibilities in life. Positive thoughts can even build your skill because positive emotions broaden your sense of possibilities, they also help you build new skills and resources. Negative emotions do the opposite.

Bottom line? If you believe in yourself, youre more likely to succeed–and to be happier in all areas of life. That is what true belief in yourself means.

What Does It Mean to Believe In Yourself?

Now that you know why its important to believe in yourself, its time to define what that actually means and looks like, as it can be a bit different for everyone.

Start by thinking about a goal you have set for yourself. How likely do you think the actions you're taking will accomplish that goal? This is a good indicator of your self-belief.

If you dont think youll accomplish that goal, it may be time to start believing in yourself more.

Self-belief is also about positivity. A positive mindset and positive self-belief go hand in hand. If you have a positive outlook on life, you are more likely to believe in yourself.

Psychology Today explains that if you believe in yourself, you have:

1. Self-worth (the sense that youhave value as a human being)

Self-confidence (a positive attitude about your abilities, qualities, and judgment)

2. Self-trust (faith that you can rely on yourself)

Autonomy (feeling able to choose and direct your own behavior)

Environmental mastery (your belief that your efforts will result in the changes you desire)

If you feel like you dont believe in yourself, dont panic. There are actionable steps you can take to have more confidence, trust, and positivity–all of which will lead to a stronger and better sense of self-belief.

How to Believe in Yourself

Learning how to believe in yourself starts with thinking positively and vocalizing positive statements to yourself to build your self-esteem.

It also includes identifying what your highest values and aspirations in life are and setting expectations so you can be true to yourself — which will let you live your best life.

At the end of the day, believing in yourself doesnt have to be a complicated process.

Try some of these proven methods to help you believe in yourself and even boost self-confidence.

Believe You Have Confidence

Perhaps one of the hardest things to do in life is to accept how extraordinary you really are, believe in yourself, and then incorporate this awareness into your attitude and personality.

But there is no one like you. You have unique contributions to share with the world that only you can give.

After all, we all have our own talents, skills, and abilities that make us extraordinary.

So one key to having confidence is by saying it. Tell yourself you have confidence, and then believe it.

Your thoughts become words and your words become your actions. So if you continue to tell yourself that you believe in yourself, eventually you really will believe in yourself.

Start by repeating affirmations such as, I believe in myself, every day.

Its that simple. Have the courage to accept yourself as you really are — not as you might be, or as someone else thinks you should be — and know that taking everything into consideration, you really are worthy to have the kind of life you want. You are an extraordinary person.

Know Your Value

Your beliefs determine your expectations. If you have positive values, you will believe yourself to be a good person. And, if you believe in yourself to be a good person, good things will happen to you.
